Holy Sisterhood!

Today I got an email that says this week is National Girlfriend and Sister’s WEEK.   I spent some time trying validate that, but only found plenty of references to the hilarious email with this photo and the header  “I am only as strong as the coffee I drink, the hairspray I use and the friends I have,” and that list of 15 or so attributes that relate to how sweet it is to be a woman!

Whether or not it’s actually National Girlfriend and Sister’s Week, I post this with much love and appreciation for all the girlfriends who claim me, and in the hope we all will have our this certain alluring quality of our own when we’re 64.  LOL  Below is my blogroll gift – for all the girlfriends & sisters out there.  I will update this often: Is a company with a goal to empower girls around the world through stickers, shoelaces, magnets, and other products.  The founder started Sticker Sisters at the the end of eighth grade, which she says  was the worst year of her life.   After overcoming middle school horrible years, she decided she wanted to do something to help girls feel better about themselves.

Volunteering is fun! Being a Big Sister is simple and rewarding. It is as easy as showing your new Little Sister how to play a favorite computer game, bake an apple pie or reading the funnies together. Being a Big Sister doesn’t take much more than that. But the impact is huge! Big Brothers Big Sisters is also looking for more men.  Tell the guys you know to sign up to become Bigs.

Sisterhood Agenda, Inc. is a global, award-winning nonprofit organization created to uplift and aid in the self-development of women and girls of African descent, a historically at-risk and traditionally underserved population. offers a wide selection of products made with hemp and other natural fibers including nettle, silk, wool and organic cotton.  They focus on handmade, fair-trade items.  They try not to source product out of China, although we they offer some clothing from China. Second Amendment Sisters is a woman’s advocacy group dedicated to preserving the basic human right to self defense, as recognized by the Second Amendment.

Save a sister.  Save yourself. Intimate partner violence occurs between married or committed couples and it also occurs in dating relationships. In fact, young women are particularly vulnerable to experiencing domestic violence. According to a U.S. Department of Justice report published in January, 2002 entitled Intimate Partner Violence, “Women ages 16 – 24 experienced the highest per capita rates of intimate violence” in the United States.  A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association reveals that “approximately 1 in 5 female students reported being physically and/or sexually abused by a dating partner.”  (Click here to learn more about violence against women.)
