Holy Sisterhood!

Today I got an email that says this week is National Girlfriend and Sister’s WEEK.   I spent some time trying validate that, but only found plenty of references to the hilarious email with this photo and the header  “I am only as strong as the coffee I drink, the hairspray I use and the friends I have,” and that list of 15 or so attributes that relate to how sweet it is to be a woman!

Save a sister.  Save yourself. Intimate partner violence occurs between married or committed couples and it also occurs in dating relationships. According to a U.S. Department of Justice report published in January, 2002 entitled Intimate Partner Violence, “Women ages 16 – 24 experienced the highest per capita rates of intimate violence” in the United States.  A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association reveals that “approximately 1 in 5 female students reported being physically and/or sexually abused by a dating partner.”  (Click here to learn more about violence against women.)
